Abandoned Masonic Temple

Abandoned Masonic Temple

So driving around the south in search of abandoned places, we stumbled across this city, in what I would describe as a post apocalyptic setting. You could see that in the early 1900s, it was once a thriving area, with large homes and ornate buildings. Unfortunately, crime and sky high unemployment and decimated the area. Going in to the explore, I didn’t know much of this abandoned Masonic Temple, or really much on the Masons at all. I just thought it was a cool 6 story building, and I wanted to see if I could find out the hidden secrets that everyone says they have. Freemasonry is said to be the largest worldwide secret society. The organization evolved from the guilds of stonemasons and cathedral builders of the Middle Ages. The rituals, customs and activities are mostly kept a secret from the public, which has a lot of people wondering the motive. Is it good, is it bad, the Illuminati, a religion? Or is it simply just a club where like minded individuals meet. After exploring this abandoned temple, I did some research and found out a little bit of history. It was built in the early 1920s with a meeting hall that contained 1,200 seats. The Scottish Rite Hall was 36×45′ and had a scenic alcove 45′ with 450 opera chairs. There were many officers rooms, showers, and even a pool room. The state of decay and neglect was extraordinary, so the rush to document this before it is gone, was pressing. If you can add anything to the history of masons, feel free to leave a comment in the comment section. Also, if you enjoyed this video, please consider subscribing.
